School Charity Committee
The School Charity Committee coordinates fundraising in support of a wide range of causes. During the course of the academic year, thousands of pounds are raised by way of special events, such as non-uniform days, concerts and shows, and our annual Sponsored Walk. There is also a Toy Drop at Christmas for St Vincent de Paul and a Bag Drop in May with all the donations going to Action Cancer.
Our Sponsored Walk is one of the highlights of the school year, with all pupils and staff joining to walk to Crawfordsburn and back. We raise over £10000 annually, dividing the money across a range of local and national charities. Another special event is the 6th form fancy dress competition for Children in Need.
Beyond Northern Ireland, we have worked alongside Abaana, a local Charity, to raise over £100,000 to help build and support a new school in Gulu, Uganda, in grateful recognition of the public money used to build our present school building. During the summers of 2015 and 2018 teams made up of students and staff, flew out to Coo Rom Bangor Grammar Nursery and Primary School to help take part in the building process and meet the local community as well as work in Kampala with Abaana..
Community is at the heart of our school mission statement, and we are proud of our generous giving to others less fortunate than ourselves.
