CCF NATIONAL REGATTA
So where do I start off, this was an amazing weekend competing against new and old friends. On the Friday, we flew over to Southampton and got a bus to HMS Excellent in Portsmouth, the headquarters of the Royal Navy. We soon boarded HMS Bristol, the only type 82 Destroyer built which saw action in the Falklands in 1982. This magnificent ship was our accommodation for the weekend. As Zander (another member of the BGS team) and I explored the ship we met some of our competition, who we still keep in contact with to this day. On Saturday, there was a gale brewing and just to add to this it was wet and cold, but that didn’t stop us. We gave it all and when the time came to go ashore we felt like we did the best we could do. We only sailed to lunch time as it was too windy. When we came to shore we all hid in one of the motor cruisers as we sipped hot chocolate listening to the wind battering against the boat. On Sunday the sailing conditions were a lot better and warmer. Overall our team came 6th and 9th. This Regatta was an amazing experience from having to wake up at dawn to march to breakfast to sailing across the water of Porchester Lake.
I just hope to have many more experiences as amazing as this.
